Nicole gives departmental seminar!

Nicole recently gave a seminar, titled Organic Aerosol Phase and Viscosity Changes after Multiphase Chemistry, to the analytical chemistry graduate students and faculty. This was Nicole's first oral presentation about her research towards understanding the physicochemical properties of organic aerosols after reaction with gas-phase species. This project is an ongoing collaboration with the Surratt Group at UNC-Chapel Hill. Congrats!

New Aerosol Acidity Paper Came Out

Recently, a new paper "Direct Determination of Aerosol pH: Size-Resolved Measurements of Submicron and Supermicron Aqueous Particles" had been accepted by Analytical Chemistry. This paper is lead by Dr. Becky Craig, who successfully defended her PhD in April.

Congrats!!!

Ault Lab Presents at Michigan's Karle Symposium

Ault Lab graduate students Nicole Olson and Nancy Lei presented posters about secondary organic aerosols at Michigan's Karle Symposium. Ault Lab high school student Monwarul Islam also presented a poster on his work this summer with aerosol acidity. Nicole was chosen as one of the top 5 analytical posters of the symposium! Congrats to all!

Nancy Passed Doctoral Qualify Exam

After the first year of Ph.D. program in Environmental Health Science Nancy took the Doctoral Quality Exam (DQE). She spent two weeks to prepare for this exam and Dr. Ault provided her lots of help. Two days before going to a field study in the University of North Carolina, she finished her defense. In June 11th, she has been informed by the Academic Degree Programs Committee that she has passd the exam.

Congrats!!!

UNC Field Study Update

The Ault and Surratt Lab's have been quite busy performing secondary organic aerosol (SOA) experiments. In this study, we have created SOA from 5 different sources, both biogenic and anthropogenic, and performed reactive uptake of IEPOX on each type. The study, appropriately titled IEPOXalypse, has already made some really exciting discoveries that we are excited to share with you all soon! Check below for some pictures of the study thus far.
